Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
WipWare makes every effort to include up to date information regarding the use and operation of our products in the supplied manuals and help files, however occasionally new issues develop that require special attention. This area is updated regularly to provide self serve answers to common questions.
I have upgraded my operating system to Windows 2000/XP and now my WipWare Software Product does not work, Do I need an update?Windows 2000/XP users will need to install the Rainbow Super Sentinel Pro license key driver on their computer for WipWare Software Products to work. This driver can be downloaded here http://safenet-inc.com/support/files/Sentinel_Protection_Installer_7.3.2.zip (Right Click - Save Target as)
I am planning on upgrading my operating system to Windows Vista, are there any updates required to do so?WipFrag users should update their Sentinel drivers using the link above. There are no known issues with the WipFrag software while running it on the Vista platform.
I have upgraded my notebook and it is not equipped with a parallel port, does this mean that I cannot use WipWare Software Products?WipWare recognizes that legacy devices such as parallel ports are being eliminated from current notebook computers, at any time if you wish to upgrade your license key to the USB version you can do so by contacting WipWare Technical Support
I receive a “No Frame Grabber Found” message whenever I start the software. Is my system/software missing something?WipFrag is designed to detect Firewire/IEE1394/iLink video cameras and some analog streaming class WDM compatible video cards. This message is simply stating that no such devices were found when the software was started.
I receive a “No Frame Grabber Found” message when I start the software, but I have a Firewire/IEEE1394/iLink video camera plugged into the port. Please make sure that the camera is attached to the computer and turned on prior to starting WipFrag so it can be detected properly.
What should I know about acquiring images? Are there any recommendations that WipWare can provide?Users of the software must develop a consistent method of acquiring images. By following a systematic routine of acquiring and analyzing images, you will get more accurate results. When acquiring samples, WipWare recommends that your images should:
- contain an easy to read scale (two scales are required for tilt correction)
- be high definition - not high resolution (do not use digital zoom)
- not be taken with a wide angle lens (image distortion)
- have particles with clearly defined edges (if you can outline the particles - WipFrag can too)
- have even lighting (avoid strong shadows)
Why should I avoid wide angle images and digital zooming when acquiring images?Digital zooming reduces the definition and clairty in your images. When you choose to digitally zoom, your camera is actually cropping and expanding the image size. This effect makes it appear as if the image has been zoomed in, but when the camera expands the image, it needs to interpolate pixels which reduces the clarity and definition. Wide angle lenses should be avoided as well. Distortion is created in images along the edges when wide angle lenses are used. The wider the image, the more edge distortion there is.
When is the best time to acquire images outdoors? It is recommended to avoid acquiring images early in the morning or late in the day when the sun is at a low point. It is during these times that long shadows are created around the particles (especially oversize) making it harder to find an adequate edge detection parameter. From our experience, the most ideal images are taken late morning or early afternoon on overcast days. Lighting is usually very even during these times creating a slight shadow around all particles. This makes finding an EDP very easy and greatly reduces the possibility of editing.
What should I use as a scaling device?WipWare recommends using any solid scaling device with a contrasting color to the material which can be laid down flat onto the material in question. Range rods, yard/meter sticks and customized frames can all be used. WipWare discourages the use of balls as they can expand and contract with changes in temperature and altitude. Be sure to have the scaling device on the same plane as the material.
I find it intrusive to have a big security key attached to the back of my notebook, Is there any way to fix that?
We offer three license key solutions which allow for maximum compatability and ease of operation, our full size parallel port license key has been standard for over a decade, we now offer a low profile parallel port license key which is ideal for notebook users who want to mount the license key to their computers and leave it, we also offer USB license key versions which offer a multitude of connectivity options (see image) | |
